BiT Global to Complete Next Phase of WBTC Custody Transition

Hong Kong — March 1, 2026 — BiT Global Trust Limited (“BiT Global”) announced a planned transition in the key management structure supporting Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC). This transition is expected to be completed on May 1, 2026.

Upon completion of the transition, BiT Global will hold both the user key and backup key associated with WBTC vault operations, one in Hong Kong and the other in Singapore. BitGo will retain one of the three private keys through its technology entity in the United States and will continue providing the underlying wallet infrastructure and technology platform supporting WBTC.

Following this transition, BiT Global will serve as the custodian responsible for WBTC vault management. This change reflects the planned evolution of WBTC’s custody model toward the multi-jurisdictional structure as originally proposed in 2024.

WBTC will continue to operate using BitGo’s multi-signature wallet architecture, and minting and redemption processes will remain supported by BitGo’s infrastructure. Proof-of-reserves, transparency reporting, and operational processes will continue as previously established by BiT Global and the WBTC network.

The latest realignment reflects growing confidence in Hong Kong’s evolving virtual asset regulatory framework, which strives to provide institutional-grade standards for virtual asset service providers including custody operations. The new arrangement optimizes overall regulatory compliance, risk management, and jurisdictional resilience.
